Did you know you are receiving a portion of your energy from solar? North Western Electric Cooperative and Buckeye Power are helping co-op members throughout the state take advantage of locally produced renewable energy - without the personal hassle and costs.
In 2018 through a community solar program called OurSolar, Buckeye Power - Ohio’s generation and transmission cooperative - built new solar panel arrays at several co-op locations throughout Ohio, bringing more emission-free energy to Ohio’s electric cooperatives. North Western Electric Cooperative is one of the sites with a 50-kilowatt array installed at the southwest corner of our property.
How much does it cost? For the average member, only 35 cents per year.
OurSolar reflects North Western Electric and Buckeye Power’s balanced approach to electricity generation. While most of the power supplied to North Western Electric Cooperative is still produced by coal-fired generation that is among the cleanest of its kind in the world, OurSolar gives cooperative members the option to supplement that baseload power - that is, electricity production that is highly reliable and always available - with locally produced green energy. We know it matters to our members, and we are here for you.

North Western Electric Cooperative values clean, renewable energy and, as your electric cooperative, we constantly look for ways to take a balanced approach towards energy production and generation. OurSolar is one of the cleanest and most affordable renewable energy sources available. By grouping solar panels together, costs can be shared and power output can be maximized. OurSolar is provided by Buckeye Power on behalf of North Western and its members.
OurSolar is included as part of our generation mix. For a typical residential member, this will result in an annual cost increase of 35 cents.
OurSolar is a local power source, which allows the community to have more control over a portion of their power supply. Generating energy with solar power creates no pollution or carbon dioxide emissions, and is a clean, renewable, and sustainable alternative energy source.
OurSolar gives all members an opportunity to benefit from this clean energy source because it’s built and maintained at a central location by experts in the field. This eliminates common barriers that prevent people from installing solar panels on their property such as trees, roof size, and house location.
The energy produced for each panel is about 375 kilowatt-hours per year, depending on weather conditions.
No. The power generated by OurSolar is transported throughout the community by North Western Electric Cooperative.
The OurSolar array is located at our Bryan office at 04125 State Route 576.
